HandyShopper

So, maybe I’ll admit that my “inner geek” was wondering if there was any other opportunities to use my Palm TX. One activity that I find constantly soul-destroying is the weekly shop, but once I’d discovered the Palm OS application HandyShopper I was intrigued and keen to find out if it could make the horror of the supermarket more bearable.
How does it work
HandyShopper is in essence a simple database that you populate with stores and products. Then, before you embark on your shopping trip you mark the items you want to buy as needed. As you wander around the aisles you can tick off the items and make note of the cost as you go if you so wish. Hopefully, when you get home and unpack you avoid that crushing feeling of despair when you realise you’ve forgotten the most important item on the list and that it’s going to condemn you to an evening of verbal abuse from your partner. Sounds good so far!

Palm’s Blazer is far from everything you’d hope a web browser would be and it looks extremely unlikely that the situation is going to get any better any time soon. There are, however, a number of tricks and tips that can improve your user-experience.
This article contains information about using Optimised mode, Fast mode, disabling javascript, using Google’s mobile search, compressing webpages using transcoder websites, general Blazer maintenance, offline content and what to do when Blazer freezes while trying to access a website.
Saying goodbye to an old friend

For a long long time I’ve been a fan of WordSmith by BlueNomad. I’ve used it for the best part of a decade, from when I owned a humble Palm III right until the present day and my Palm TX.
When I upgraded to the TX I was horrified to discover that if I had WordSmith installed in main memory and used the TX’s inbuilt find function that unit would reset as soon as it hit the WordSmith records! Disaster – I tend to use find fairly frequently. A workaround was to install it to a memory card, but that the broke the ability to Hot-Sync documents!
Handpainter Pro

Pixelling take a lot of time and sometimes finding the opportunity to sit down and start painting can be difficult. Recently I came across Handpainter Pro by Soft Away who I must say have one of the worst websites that I’ve seen for some time.
My first impression of Handpainter was good and it looked as if it might be just the job for the odd spot of covert pixelling.

Many years ago 1, as a teenager, I spent many days sat infront of my Amiga looking at what was little more than a blank screen – and I was enthralled.
This was the joy of playing X-COM:Enemy Unknown.
